OVER £5 MILLION INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT IN STRABANE
Minister of State, John Spellar, MP, announced today, over £5m will be spent on structural road maintenance and capital improvements in the Strabane area this year. Divisional Roads Manager, Mr Pat Doherty, revealed the details, in a presentation of DRD Roads Service’s autumn report, to the local District Council.
Speaking following the meeting, Mr Doherty reported: "The level of investment in the Strabane District Council area is indicative of the continued high levels of investment across Northern Ireland.
"It is also worth pointing out that Roads Service has secured additional funding for local transport and safety measures for the Strabane District Council area and I am pleased to confirm that this has enabled us to extend our programme of works in this sector."
In his report, Mr Doherty took the opportunity to update councillors on the progress of schemes being carried out in 2004/05 as well as presenting a draft programme indicating priorities for 2005-2007.
He said: "I am pleased to note the completion of works on the A5, Victoria Road, near Burndennet. We are also committed to a scheme for minor carriageway realignment and provision of a right turning lane on the A5, between Strabane and Sion Mills, at the Peacock Road junction.
"On the maintenance side, I welcome the commencement of resurfacing of carriageway and footways on the Derry Road, from the northern end of the bypass to Woodend Road."
