OVER £5.5M INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT IN DUNGANNON AND SOUTH TYRONE

Over £5.5m is being spent on structural road maintenance and capital improvements in the Dungannon and South Tyrone area this year, Divisional Roads Manager, Mr Pat Doherty, revealed following the presentation of DRD Roads Service's autumn report to the local Borough Council.

Speaking following the meeting, Mr Doherty reported: "The level of investment in the Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough is indicative of the continued high levels of investment across Northern Ireland.

"It is also worth pointing out that Roads Service has also secured additional funding for local transport and safety measures for the Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough and I am pleased to confirm that this has enabled us to extend our programme of works in this sector."

In his report, Mr Doherty took the opportunity to update councillors on the progress of schemes being carried out in 2004/05 as well as presenting a draft programme indicating priorities for 2005-2007.

He said: "I am pleased to note the completion of works on the A4 at Eglish junction as well as the major improvement to the Quinn's corner junction. We are also committed to progressing a scheme for a widened single carriageway on the A5 at Blackhill providing a guaranteed overtaking opportunity in the eastbound direction.

On the maintenance side, I would welcome the commencement of strengthening and resurfacing works on the A4, east of Ballygawley."
