£3.3M TO BE SPENT ON ROADS IN COOKSTOWN THIS YEAR
Over £3.3m is being spent on structural road maintenance and capital improvements in the Cookstown area this year, Divisional Roads Manager, Mr Pat Doherty, revealed following the presentation of DRD Roads Service’s autumn report to the local District Council.
Speaking following the meeting, Mr Doherty reported:
"The level of investment in the Cookstown District Council area is indicative of the continued high levels of investment across Northern Ireland.
"It is also worth pointing out that Roads Service has also secured additional funding for local transport and safety measures for the Cookstown District Council area and I am pleased to confirm that this has enabled us to extend our programme of works in this sector."
In his report, Mr Doherty took the opportunity to update councillors on the progress of schemes being carried out in 2004/05 as well as presenting a draft programme indicating priorities for 2005-2007.
He said: "I am pleased to report that the Notice of Intention to make a Vesting Order for the Westland Road improvement scheme was published on the 11 August. Several objections to the proposed scheme have been received and Roads Service is currently negotiating with landowners to resolve outstanding issues. We are also committed to progressing a scheme on the B160 / C619 Coagh Road at Annaghone Road to improve visibility splays and to construct a new footway on Kilmascally Road, Ardboe.
On the maintenance side, I welcome the completion of resurfacing work at B160 Ballynargan Road, as well as the planned works on the C563 Littlebridge/Lisnahall Roads and C612 Flo Road."
