ROADS SERVICE INVEST IN NEWTOWNABBEY AREA
Plans for structural road maintenance in the Newtownabbey area this year were revealed by Divisional Roads Manager, Mr Joe Drew, when he presented DRD Roads Service's autumn report to the Borough Council.
Introducing the report, Mr Drew said: "The level of investment in the Newtownabbey area is indicative of the continued high levels of investment across Northern Ireland that, once again, sees Road Service committing some £70m towards structural maintenance. It is worth noting that the vast majority of this money, some 90% in fact, is being earmarked for work on non-trunk roads which form the bulk of the road network in this area."
Mr Drew reported on the opening of the A8 dual carriageway between the junction with the Doagh Road and the junction with the Hillhead Road and also referred to the opening of the bus lane on the M2 on slip from Sandyknowes.
Mr Drew reviewed recently completed works and outlined plans for the coming year. He said: "In addition to a substantial programme of traffic management projects, approximately £250k will be spent, in the Newtownabbey area, on minor works schemes, including the start of the contract to create a roundabout at the junction of Station Road, Doagh with the A57 Templepatrick Road."
