ROADS SERVICE INVEST IN BELFAST INFRASTRUCTURE

Plans for structural road maintenance in the Belfast area this year were revealed by Divisional Roads Manager, Mr Joe Drew, when he presented DRD Roads Service’s bi-annual report to the City Council.

Introducing the report, Mr Drew said: "The level of investment in the Belfast City Council area is indicative of the continued high levels of investment across Northern Ireland that, once again, sees Road Service committing some £70m towards structural maintenance. It is worth noting that the vast majority of this money, some 90% in fact, is being earmarked for work on non-trunk roads which form the bulk of the road network in this area."

Mr Drew reviewed recently completed works and outlined plans for the coming year. He said: "In addition to a substantial programme of traffic management projects, approximately £400,000 will be spent, in the Belfast area, on minor works schemes, such a new safety fence for the Sydenham By-Pass.
