MAJOR ROAD SCHEME FOR KNOCK DUAL CARRIAGEWAY
Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Angela Smith, MP, announced today that a major road improvement scheme on the A55 Knock Dual Carriageway would start on 25 January.
The Minister said: "The £450,000 road scheme incorporates carriageway and footway resurfacing, provision of a cycle track and replacement of the street lighting system and safety fences.
"Up to 40,000 vehicles per day travel along this road and disruption due to the works will unfortunately be unavoidable. However Roads Service has carefully programmed the works and traffic management arrangements, in order to minimise inconvenience to the travelling public. However, some delays will be inevitable and I would ask that motorists be patient."
The work is scheduled to take approximately 10 weeks to complete and involves a 1.2km stretch between Shandon Park and the Castlereagh Road. The scheme will be phased to allow at least one lane in each direction to remain open to traffic and two lanes during peak times. Signs will be in place to assist the travelling public.
In order to complete the final surfacing operation it will be necessary to close the road to traffic in the westbound direction, towards Castlereagh Road and then the eastbound direction, towards Shandon Park on two separate Sundays towards the end of March.
DRD Roads Service is currently implementing a publicity campaign to inform the public, local businesses and residents and advance information signs are in place at each end of the scheme.
