ROADS SERVICE INTRODUCE NEW SPEED LIMIT IN DERRYLIN

DRD Roads Service has introduced a 30mph speed limit in the village of Derrylin in County Fermanagh, Regional Development Minister, Peter Robinson, MP, MLA, announced this week.

Traditionally, there has always been a 40mph speed limit in the village, but over the years residents and public representatives have lobbied for a reduction in the limit.

Mr Robinson said: "Roads Service is pleased to be in a position to provide the new speed limit, primarily as a result of the increased depth of frontage development that has taken place within the village in recent years."

Villagers will also benefit from a number of footway improvements that are currently being carried out within the village. This work involves the widening and resurfacing of existing footways and will enhance the safety and convenience of pedestrians as they walk along the main road.

The Minister said: "Following consultation with the local school principal, the existing traffic island adjoining the Spar shop at the northern end of the village is also to be relocated.

"This will now be positioned to a point further out of the village from where it is envisaged that the island will retain its speed reduction function while at the same time allowing the school patrol person to operate more effectively.

"Cumulatively these measures will further complement the very significant package of road safety measures Roads Service has introduced to the village in recent years."
