DRD MINISTER CALLS FOR VIGILANCE OVER BOGUS CALLERS
Regional Development Minister, Peter Robinson, MP, MLA, has called for the public to be more vigilant following an increase in the number of bogus callers claiming to be from the Water Service.
The Minister said that all Water Service employees will identify themselves to its customers and will wait while their credentials are checked out. He also announced that in the coming weeks, all Water Service staff will be issued with new photographic identification badges in a bid to ease concerns over bogus callers. The new passes will replace employees existing badges.
Regional Development Minister, Peter Robinson, MP, MLA, said: "Bogus callers are a scourge on society and I would urge everyone to be vigilant and on no account allow anyone in to your house without identification. Remember, a genuine caller will not be embarrassed if you close your door to check out their credentials.
"Water Service is typical of many organizations who have direct contact with the general public in their homes on a regular basis. However, it has recognized the problems and concern felt by its customers as a result of bogus callers and is taking positive measures to help alleviate these concerns."
Anyone who is concerned about the identity of a caller should contact Water Service by calling the WATERLINE on 08457 440088.
