NEW SIGNALS TO HELP TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT AT SANDYKNOWES
The Department for Regional Development’s Roads Service has announced a new traffic signal layout at Sandyknowes in Newtownabbey, to help traffic management at one of Northern Ireland’s busiest interchanges.
An additional set of part-time signals will be introduced tomorrow (Wednesday) at the A8 (M) access onto the roundabout, improving conditions for traffic entering the roundabout from the A8, as well as the Ballyhenry Road.
An additional CCTV camera has also been installed to enable close monitoring of the traffic conditions by Roads Services Traffic Information and Control Centre.
David Orr, Divisional Roads Manager, said: "The provision of these additional signals will permit greater control of the traffic movements at this extremely busy interchange.
"Staff from the Traffic Information and Control Centre will closely monitor this new arrangement and will make any necessary adjustments to the signal timings to ensure their optimum performance.
"Members of the public are asked for the patience during this initial period of operation."
