NEW LANE MARKINGS ON SPRUCEFIELD ROUNDABOUT

DRD Roads Service has announced details of a scheme to improve road safety on the main Sprucefield roundabout.

Work will take place during the summer months to change traffic management arrangements on the main roundabout, in order to provide better lane discipline and improved overall road safety.

The work will include extensive modification of the road markings on the roundabout and on the approaches to it. It will also involve the erection of corresponding signs on the approach roads informing drivers of which lanes to use.

There will be considerable use of hatching on the roundabout and the newly marked lanes will have destination markings in them to guide drivers through the junction.

A spokesperson for DRD Roads Service said: "The public are asked to exercise extra caution when using the new layout, particularly during the first few weeks of operation, until drivers become more familiar with the new arrangements.

"It is intended to carry out the work at off-peak times. Roads Service apologises for any inconvenience to the travelling public during the installation of these works and will endeavour to keep any disruption to a minimum."
