CONSULTATION BEGINS ON THE TRANSFER OF STAFF AND ASSETS TO THE NEW TRUSTS

Another step to making the new Health and Social Service Trusts a reality took place today.

The Minister for Health, Social Services and Public Safety, Paul Goggins has announced a consultation exercise on the transfer of staff, property, rights and liabilities from the existing 18 Health and Social Service Trusts to the five new Trusts. When the transfer of assets takes place this will enable the new Trusts to become fully operational from 1 April 2007.

Paul Goggins said: "This is another important step towards a new era for the delivery of health and social services in Northern Ireland. "

"Staff should be assured that this transfer mechanism is designed to protect all their existing rights and entitlements as they transfer from their old Trust to their new Trust. I am committed to ensuring that all staff are fully informed and consulted about the change process, as we continue to implement the decisions arising from the Review of Public Administration."
