MINISTER CONGRATULATES DUNGANNON COUNCIL ON ATTAINING BOROUGH STATUS
New Minister for the Environment, Mr Sam Foster, last night congratulated Dungannon on its achievement of Borough status. The former Dungannon District Council is now known as Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council.
In presenting the Charter document to the Mayor, Councillor James Canavan, Mr Foster said:
"I am honoured that one of my first official engagements is to participate in Dungannon’s new Borough status. I salute the vision and commitment of so many people who have worked towards prosperity and a decent quality of life for all the people of the area.
"The contribution made by elected representatives, leaders of business, key influencers, public servants, community and church leaders, should be a beacon for others and a model for the young people of the borough.
Mr Foster added:
"As Minister with responsibility for Local Government, I applaud the commendable work done by all of our District Councils. They have continued to work in harmony with central government, public service providers, voluntary organisations and the business sector, often in difficult circumstances.
"In particular, Chief Executives and their staff are to be congratulated for the dedication and professionalism they have shown in keeping services running, during such periods."
