CONTRACTOR FINED £300 FOR WASTE OFFENCE
Mr Gerald Ward, aged 44, of Gulladuff Road, Magherafelt was fined a total of £300 at Coleraine Magistrates' court on 2 February 2007 for breach of waste management legislation.
Environmental and Heritage Service (EHS) officers investigated a site off Cabragh Road, Bushmills on 26 August 2004 where a substantial quantity of controlled waste was deposited. Investigations by EHS officers identified Mr Ward had deposited excavated soil wastes on the site.
Mr Ward pleaded guilty on the waste charge.

The controlled waste deposited by Mr Ward on land off Cabragh Road consisted of clay and stones. Mr Ward pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined under the following £300 for one charge of Article 4(1)[a] of The Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997. The charge related to the deposit of controlled waste, or knowingly caused or knowingly permitted controlled waste to be deposited in or on land without there being in force a waste management licence authorizing the deposit.
