STRABANE MAN FINED £4,000 FOR WASTE OFFENCES
Patrick Blee of 85 Urney Road, Strabane was fined a total of £4,000 at Strabane Magistrates' court today for breaches of waste management legislation.
On 22 July 2005 DOE Environment and Heritage Service staff investigated a site at 85 Urney Road, Strabane, where they found a large quantity of soil and clay excavated from a building development site in Lifford.
Mr Blee pleaded not guilty to two charges related to depositing, keeping or disposing of controlled waste without a waste management licence. He was fined £2,000 for each offence and court costs of £25.

The two charges were:
Depositing controlled waste or knowingly causing or knowingly permitting controlled waste to be deposited in or on land without there being in force a waste management licence authorising the deposit, contrary to Article 4(1)(a) and Article 4(6) of the Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997; and
Treating keeping or disposing of controlled waste in or on land except under and in accordance with a waste management licence, contrary to Article 4(1)(b) and Article 4(6) of the Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997.
