CARRYDUFF FARMER FINED £2500 FOR WASTE OFFENCES
Mr Jackson Patterson, from Belfast Road, Carryduff, was fined £2,500 at Newtownards Magistrates' Court today for pollution.
During September 2004, officers from the Environment and Heritage Service investigated an incident concerning illegal disposal of construction waste on agricultural lands at Lisnasallagh Road, Carryduff, owned by Mr Patterson.
Mr Patterson, who was present in court, pleaded guilty to one offence under Article 4(1) (a) of the Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 - knowingly permitting controlled waste to be deposited on land without a waste management licence in force.
NOTES TO EDITORS:
- The controlled waste deposited on land at Lisnasallagh Road, Carryduff consisted of clay, which had been excavated from a construction site at Purdysburn.
- Mr Patterson pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined £2500 under Article 4(1)(a) of The Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997.
