PORTAFERRY MAN FINED £1,000 FOR WASTE OFFENCES
John Mark Hastings Browne, of Ballyfounder Road, Portaferry was fined for waste offences at Ards Magistrates' Court today.
On 18 February 2005, Environment and Heritage Service officers investigated a site owned by Mr Browne, off Barhall Road in Portaferry, adjacent to an Area of Special Scientific Interest.
A quantity of waste, consisting of a cooker, wood, plasterboard, fibreglass insulation and mirrored slide-robe doors was deposited on the site.
Mr Browne pleaded guilty on the waste charge under Article 4(1)(b) of The Waste and Contaminated Land Order (NI) 1997 and was fined £1,000 and £43 court costs for keeping controlled waste on land without a waste management licence.

The controlled waste found on land off Barhall Road (adjacent to an ASSI), mostly consisted of cooker, wood, plasterboard, fibreglass insulation and some mirrored slide-robe doors.
Mr Browne pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined under the following: Article 4(1) (b) of The Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997. The charge related to the keeping on any land, except under and in accordance with a waste management licence.
