DRIVER AND VEHICLE LICENSING CONTINGENCY ARRANGEMENTS

Belfast will have the only Local Vehicle Licensing Office open to the public next week. DVLNI has been advised by NIPSA of continuous strike action by their members from Monday 26 April.

A spokesperson said:

"As a result, our customers seeking to re-license vehicles can use the renewal reminder form issued from DVLNI in the existing 81 vehicle re-licensing Post Office branches. For those customers who do not have a reminder form, a new re-licensing facility will be available from Monday 26th April 2004 at the Post Office branches listed below.

"Customers buying a brand new car will be advised by their dealers who will be aware of the procedures to be followed. Registration of new or imported vehicles, not purchased through a garage, can be done by posting the application to our Headquarters, Vehicle Licensing Division, DVLNI, County Hall, Castlerock Rd, Coleraine BT51 3TA."

Further information is also available on the DVLNI website: www.dvlni.gov.uk or by contacting the Vehicle Enquiry Section by telephone 028 7034 1461.

The spokesperson stressed that no telephone re-licensing service will be available for the duration of the industrial action.

The majority of Post Office branches are open 9.00am - 5.30pm Mon-Fri and 9.00am - 12.30pm/1.30pm on Saturday.

As this new service is being introduced at short notice, Post Office Ltd has asked that customers bear with them as they respond as quickly as possible to the additional workload. Post Office helpline – 08457223344
