GREEN LIGHT FOR CASCUM ROAD, BANBRIDGE RETAIL DEVELOPMENT
DOE Planning Service issued a decision notice on 17 December 2003 granting outline planning permission to a major new retail development at Cascum Road, Banbridge.
The scheme comprises five retail warehousing units totalling 40,160 sq. m. gross floorspace; and additional area of land to the southern side, of an already approved business park comprising 11.33 hectares of business park as a substitute for the area replaced by retail warehousing; an amended road improvement scheme to include a second road bridge over the A1; and an amended layout for the hotel, petrol station with shop and fast food outlet as a result of the altered road scheme.
Pat McBride, Planning Service Director of Operations explained:
"This scheme attracted widespread support from local politicians, Banbridge District Council and local trading organisations. It involves the extension of a previously approved business park in an accessible, strategic industrial estate to serve Banbridge."
NOTES TO EDITORS:
- The application was for outline planning permission for the package of uses described above and relates to an area of 40.5 hectares of agricultural land to the south-east of Banbridge town, and alongside the A1 Belfast-Newry dual carriageway.
- Full planning permission was granted on 31 October 2002 for a proposed business park incorporating call centres, light industrial/business/workshop units, industrial units, distribution units, a hotel with bar/restaurant, a petrol service station with shop and a drive through fast food outlet.
- The current outline planning permission amends and extends the development granted planning permission in 2002.
