AWARDS AVAILABLE FOR NEW LOOK NORTHERN IRELAND

The DOE's Planning Service is inviting people in Northern Ireland to nominate the new look Ulster for prestigious National Awards.

"New buildings, public art works, landscape and town design schemes are eligible for the 2001 Civic Trust Awards," explained Chris Wilson of the Planning Service.

"The 2001 Civic Trust annual award scheme for environmental design will be open to non-metropolitan local government authorities throughout the U.K., which means only Belfast City, Newtownabbey Borough and Castlereagh Borough Councils are excluded from this year's scheme," Chris said.

"The Civic Trust Awards have been in existence for 41 years and some of Northern Ireland's best known buildings have received awards in the past.

"We invite entries from all high quality construction, landscape and lighting projects, regardless of size or type, completed between 1 January 1998 and 30 September 2000.

"Anyone can enter a project with the owner's and occupier's permission and the deadline for entries is Friday 15 September 2000.

"Entry Forms and further details are available from The Planning Service, DOE, Clarence Court, 10-18 Adelaide Street, Belfast BT 2 8GB, tel. 02890 540686."
