RALLYING CALL TO PUBLIC TO VISIT OUR CASTLES MONUMENTS AND COUNTRY PARKS

Let Northern Ireland's history and environment come alive before your eyes.

That was the message from new DOE's Environment and Heritage Service (EHS), when issuing its Events 2000 Programme today. The programme highlights the many events and activities that will be taking place at Northern Ireland's Castles, Monuments and Country Parks in the coming months.

In issuing the Events 2000 programme, EHS's Education Officer Johanne Martin said: "We all know that Northern Ireland is enriched with historic monuments and country parks. But how many of us actually avail of the history, the nature, the scenery, and the sense of freedom they offer?

"EHS is publishing this events calendar to attract people to these historic and natural sites. People of all ages will enjoy what we have to offer, ranging from a Bats Day for schoolchildren in Crawfordsburn Country Park to the Lughnasa Medieval Fair in Carrickfergus Castle in July.

"My message to everyone in Northern Ireland is enjoy our heritage, and bring that relative or friend from overseas when they come to visit."
