DISTRICT RATES ANNOUNCED FOR 2000/2001
The Department of the Environment today announced that all district councils have struck their district rates for the 2000/2001 financial year.
The district rates are struck by 15 February each year by individual district councils to meet the costs of local services including refuse collection and disposal, street cleansing, leisure and recreation facilities. District councils strike a domestic rate and a non-domestic rate.
District rates reflect a percentage increase of between 0.98% and 9.9% for the domestic rate and between 0.93% and 9.91% for the non-domestic rate when compared with the 1999/2000 figures.
In mid March, the Department of Finance and Personnel will strike domestic and non-domestic regional rates to help pay for central services such as health, roads and transport.
The combination of district and regional rates is used to calculate the rates bills for domestic and non domestic ratepayers.
