MINISTER APPOINTS SIX NEW MEMBERS TO THE GOVERNING BODY OF STRANMILLIS UNIVERSITY COLLEGE
The Department for Employment and Learning today announced the appointments of Mrs Doreen Bell, Mr Neil Bodger, Mr Derek Capper, Mr Matthew Hagan, Mrs Judith Harper and Mr William McGonigal to the Governing Body of Stranmillis University College.
The new appointments, for a term of four years, will take effect from 1 August 2006.
The announcement was made by Employment and Learning Minister Maria Eagle, who congratulated all of the six new members on their selection.
"I congratulate all of the new members on their appointment to the Governing Body of Stranmillis University College. I am delighted with the enthusiasm all of the new members have displayed and am confident of their success over the next four years."
Paying tribute to the outgoing members of the Governing Body, the Minister said; "I thank all of the outgoing members for their dedication. They have made a tremendous contribution to Stranmillis University College and I wish each of them every success in the future."

1. Stranmillis University College was established as a legally independent higher education institution, accountable to a corporate governing body under the Colleges of Education (Northern Ireland) Order 2005.
2. The Department for Employment and Learning has appointed six governors to the Governing Body using the Public Appointments Procedures, introduced by the Northern Ireland Assembly, to ensure a fair, open and transparent appointments process that produces a quality outcome and can command public confidence.
3. The appointments were made in accordance with the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland's (OCPA NI) Code of Practice.
4. All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for the political activity of appointees (if any declared) to be published.
