REAPPOINTMENTS TO THE LABOUR RELATIONS AGENCY BOARD
The Department for Employment and Learning today announced two reappointments of members to the Board of the Labour Relations Agency.
Dr Boyd Black and Mr Gordon Milligan have been reappointed to the Board for the period 1 October 2005 to 30 September 2008. Dr Black and Mr Milligan were first appointed to the Board in October 2002.
Dr Black is a senior lecturer in the School of Management and Economics at Queen's University Belfast and has taught there since 1974. He has extensive knowledge of employment relations, has carried out much research and has written widely on the subject. He is a member of the Northern Ireland Forum for Industrial Relations and has been a member of the Executive Committee of the British Universities Industrial Relations Association and a member of an IT Forum advising the Belfast City Council Economic Development Committee.
Mr Milligan is presently the Human Resources Director (Europe) for Nortel, an international communications equipment manufacturing company. Previously he spent 20 years with Bombardier Aerospace, where his last post was as Human Resources Manager. He has wide experience of employment relations matters, especially from a large company perspective and is a frequent lecturer in management development throughout the UK. He is also a member of the Confederation of British Industry's Employment Affairs Committee and the Northern Ireland Forum for Industrial Relations.
NOTES TO EDITORS:
1. The Labour Relations Agency was established in 1976 by the Industrial Relations (Northern Ireland) Order 1976 as an independent body responsible for promoting the improvement of employment relations in Northern Ireland. Board membership currently attracts remuneration of £4,760 per annum.
2. The reappointments were made in accordance with the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland's Code of Practice.
3. All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the appointments process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for political activity of the appointee (if any declared) to be published.
4. No political activity was declared by either of the appointees.
5. The Chairman of the Board of the Labour Relations Agency is Mr Patrick McCartan. Other Board members are Ms Julie-Anne Clarke, Mr Harry Goodman, Mrs Norma Heaton, Mr Jim McCusker, Mr Eugene McGlone, Mrs Patricia O'Farrell and Mr Roden Ward.
