APPOINTMENTS TO THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY TRAINING BOARD

Minister for Employment and Learning, Angela Smith, today confirmed the appointments of four new members to the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).

The appointments of Lorraine Campbell, Trevor Patterson, Michael Kiddle and Michael Mulholland take effect from 1 August 2005 and run until 31 July 2008.

Lorraine Campbell, from Carrickfergus, took over as the proprietor of Jack Patterson Ltd, Belfast, a medium sized construction company, in 2000. The company carries out work for a range of clients including the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and Housing Associations. This includes contracts specialising in the installation of disabled adaptations. Mrs Campbell previously worked for organisations such as Mivan Construction and Nationwide Estate Agents.

Trevor Patterson, from Bangor, has been recently appointed as Director of Change Management at the Chartered Institute of Building and has worked with this organisation since 1999. He is a Board Member of Rethinking Construction Northern Ireland and Director of the Roofing Industry Alliance. He has been a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building since 1999.

Michael Kiddle, from Donaghadee, is Regional Secretary of the Union of Construction and Allied Technical Trades (UCATT) and he has been an active trade unionist for more than 20 years. He also serves as Vice Chair of the Northern Ireland Committee / Irish Congress of Trade Unions; on the Board of BuildSafe-NI; and is a current employee representative on CITB's Standards Committee.

Michael Mulholland, from Ballynahinch, was appointed Regional Organiser for the General Municipal and Boilermakers (GMB) Union in 2001 and he has responsibility for membership development in the construction sector. He also has considerable experience as a trade unionist in the transport sector and at operative level. He is active in voluntary work through the Lions Club International.

The Minister has reappointed Sean Campbell, Managing Director and Company Secretary of H&P Campbell Ltd, to serve a second three year term as CITB Chairman from 1 August 2005 to 31 July 2008. In addition to this, the Minister has reappointed the following Board Members for the same period: Tony Doran, Managing Director, Construction Employers Federation; Edwin O'Neill, Director, Gilbert - Ash NI Ltd; Bobby Newberry, Proprietor, Robert Newberry Plumbing & Heating; Bobby Hanna, Regional Secretary, Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union; Eleanor Ross, Vice-Principal, Lisburn Institute of Further and Higher Education; and Professor David Cleland, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Queen's University, Belfast.

NOTES TO EDITORS:

1. The Construction Industry Training Board is a Non-Departmental Public Body which is funded by a statutory levy on employers in the industry. All appointments to the Board are made by the Department for Employment and Learning under the Industrial Training (Northern Ireland) Order 1984.

2. The appointments have been made on merit and in accordance with the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland's Code of Practice.

3. The post of Chairman is remunerated at £17,500 per annum (pro rata) and Members receive an allowance of £144 for attendance at meetings.

4. Political activity played no part in the selection process. No political activity was declared by the appointees.
