CREATING SUCCESSFUL AND COMPETITIVE ECONOMY A PRIORITY - FARREN
The Minister of Higher and Further Education, Training and Employment, Dr Sean Farren, today officially launched the Centre of Excellence in Electronics at the Castlereagh College of Further Education.
During his visit, the Minister also officially opened the new state-of-the-art computer suite, supported by Nortel Networks. The suite which boasts equipment unique to Ireland, will assist in delivering courses covering every aspect of modern telecommunications.
Speaking at the opening, Minister Farren said: "The creation of this new centre of excellence will further enhance the high standard of education and training available locally and will, I believe, enable the college to further develop and strengthen its growing links with industry.
"Creating a successful and competitive economy in Northern Ireland is a priority for the Executive. To achieve that goal it is vital that we meet the needs of local businesses and industry. My Department is committed to working in partnership with industry to ensure high quality learning is available."
The Minister referred to the excellent facilities available at Castlereagh College and said that the funding provided by his Department was an indication of its commitment to meeting the needs of business.
He added: "What we are witnessing today is a live example of a college with vision, attitude and a determination not just to change, but also to succeed. The partnership between the college and Nortel has led to the purchase of high quality equipment and refurbishment of the suite. This will assist in the delivery of quality training and provide students with first class facilities and learning opportunities."
