MAKING A REAL DIFFERENCE TO STUDENTS LIVES – FARREN

Minister of Higher and Further Education, Training and Employment, Dr Sean Farren, today launched a 44 page booklet entitled ‘Drugs – A Survival Guide for Students.’

Designed to counter drug abuse, including alcohol abuse, in tertiary education, it has been jointly developed by student bodies in Northern Ireland and the Eastern Health Boards co-ordination team, and forms part of the overall drugs education campaign launch.

Speaking at the event, the Minister said: "This is a subject that my Department and the Executive treats very seriously. A joint ministerial group has been established and is at the forefront of implementing a Northern Ireland drug’s strategy.

"This initiative by NUS/USI is to be welcomed. It will complement existing provision in this area and can go a significant way towards making a real difference to the lives of many young people who are engaging in or embarking on a path to further and higher education.

"I congratulate those involved and I urge existing and future students to read the guide closely."
