EDUCATION MINISTER VISITS TEMPLEMORE SECONDARY SCHOOL
The Education Minister, Martin McGuinness MP, today pledged that he and his Department were committed to tackling educational disadvantage, wherever it is found, in all communities and in all areas.During a visit to Templemore Secondary School at Northland Road in the City of Derry, the Minister said he was anxious to listen to the views of all those involved in education, particularly those working at the ‘chalkface’.
"I will be working hard for all sections of the community. I wish to see an educational system in which everyone is treated fairly and the best interests of our children, whatever their background or circumstances, is foremost in our minds.
"It is particularly apt for me to visit this school today for its staff and pupils are facing, on a daily basis, some of the key issues which I will be seeking to address in all schools in my time as Minister for Education.
"The school draws pupils from both sides of the community, many from very disadvantaged circumstances, and the staff are working very hard together to give all of the pupils the best possible education," the Minister said
Later the Minister visited Department of Education staff at Waterside House.
