STATEMENT BY EDUCATION MINISTER

The Education Minister Designate, Martin McGuinness, today commented on events at Kilkeel High School when a number of pupils walked out of class for a time.

"I am disappointed at what happened at Kilkeel but I am greatly encouraged by the general level of support that I have received since my appointment on Monday.

"There are difficulties for all in a situation of change. But change is necessary and our job is to manage that change in the most sensitive way.

"All of the new Ministers are facing huge challenges and should be judged on how they respond to those challenges," he said.
